The Sooner Lions Club, a member of Lions Clubs International, will celebrate its 50th Anniversary in April 2013. During these years the Sooner Lions Club has sponsored many projects in Norman and throughout the state. The Lions Boy's Ranch in Perkins, Oklahoma, The Lions Eye Bank in Oklahoma City, The Mobile Screening Trailer, and the Lions Club International Foundation have all received support from the Sooner Lions Club
Through Kiva International, the Sooner Lions Club has made over 50 loans totaling over $7,500 to aid micro finance operations in over 45 countries. These loans are made primarily to women small business entrepreneurs trying to improve their life and the life of their children.
Projects in Norman include parks, school marquees, Salvation Army Christmas bells, white cane drives, bridges, and other charities.
The major focus of the club in Norman has been the mission of providing eyeglasses to Norman school children who would otherwise not have glasses available. The Club has spent over $90,000 in pursuit of this endeavor.
